Eggplants, Cabbages and Sunflowers Oh My!

With a break between the rain storms we have been having, I took a stroll this morning through the field to see how everything was doing after all the rain. Coyle Farm got some good news as I spotted our first eggplants! There are only two of them but hopefully more to follow. I took a walk to check all the flowers and noticed that there were some buds on the sunflowers that were trying to open up and get some light after all the rain. Lastly, it seems that the rain has helped the Coyle Farm cabbage patch take shape as almost all the cabbage plants have enclosed and started to grow.

Field's A Growing

Coyle Farm is expanding! Over the last two weeks we've been planting a second round of crops. Hopefully near the end of our season, we will be able to share with you some additional greens like spinach and arugula, as well as swiss chard, broccoli, peas, and some winter squashes. To get ready for the fall holidays, we have also planted Farmer T's Pumpkin Patch. We planted a variety of small-to-large pumpkins, and we hope to end up with some 100 pound pumpkins!  (Delivery might be tricky).

The new crop has already begun to sprout due to all the rain that we have recently had at the farm. Hopefully soon things will be big enough to update everyone with some pictures!

I Spy....

Today on a walk through the field, I came upon some much wanted guests in the growing madness....

OUR FIRST TOMATOES!!!

Coyle Farm's first red tomatoes are some cherry tomatoes! Check them out for yourself in the pictures and soon to be in delivered in the upcoming weeks.

Week 6 Video Update

Week 6 Update

Since planting on Memorial Day weekend, it's been about six weeks now and things at Coyle Farm are taking off! Due to some great weather and rain showers over the past weeks, all the plants are looking great and producing some delicious and fresh produce!

And we're off!

Memorial Day Weekend: the official start of summer for some; the official start of Coyle Farm for us!  What has been a long time coming and after a great deal of discussion and planning, we finally broke ground (literally) on May 26th, 2012.

We are four individuals starting a new business and reinvigorating a farm that has been in my family since 1876.  Patrick, Terence, Brendan, and I (Brie) welcome you to join us on our new adventure in organic farming in order to provide the best local, seasonal produce. Straight from the farm to you!

In our inaugural year we plan to have an onsite farm stand open every weekend throughout the summer and into the fall, and we're also beginning a small, member-based CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program.

So stay tuned and watch this space!
